FIRE AND SAFETY WORKSHOP (NSS)
Today we had a Fire and Safety workshop organised by the NSS unit of our college. Four personnels from the fire and safety department were present. The ASTO Mr.Anil Kumar took classes on different types of fire outbreaks and different types of fire extinguishers. They brought fire extinguishers with them and showed us how each one of them operates. He educated us on the approach we must adopt during fire outbreaks. We learnt that there are different types of fire extinguishers each for liquid, electrical and other materials. They gave us demonstration of foam extinguishers used in petrol pumps using thinner . We were also given class on the proper use of LPG cylinder, the structure of a cylinder, how to differentiate the cylinders of different companies, the proper response to a gas leakage and it's safe installation. They gave demonstration on how to cut of the oxygen supply if a cylinder is on fire . Next we were given class on CPR . The officer educated us on the method of treatment involved (DRSAVCD) , identification of the patient who needs a CPR and the procedure for doing it properly. The demonstrated the process on a dummy by clearly explaining the steps and asked two of our students to repeat the procedure. Lastly we were taught the first aid for choking . They demonstrated two methods that could be used if we encountered such a situation.The whole class was interesting as the officers shared their personal experience in the field and educated us on various disasters that often happen in our daily lives and how to tackle them .
